There has been lots of highs throughout my international career which Ill always recall with fondness, for example my debut against Northern Ireland, winning two international player of the year awards, and my hat-trick at Malta.
It is now the ideal time for me to step aside though and retire from the Scotland national team and let the boys and younger players choose my place and hopefully push the squad forward.
I want to especially invite the Tartan Army to the special support you have showed me over the years. That will never be forgotten by me.
A massive thank you also goes to everybody at the SFA for looking after me because I was a young boy, including Frank Reilly, Doc McLean, Jonesy, supervisors, trainers, team, the physios, massage therapists, apparel guys and the media staff I have worked with over the years.
I can now watch as a lover and I hope to see us perform at a significant tournament again shortly – hands crossed the boys do it come March!
